The Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on Wednesday resumed hearing on the trial of Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki. At the resumed hearing, prosecution witness, Micheal Wetkas told the CCT that the Lagos State Land Registry does not have records of properties allegedly belonging to Saraki. Westkas an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), under re-examination by prosecution counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN) told the Tribunal that the properties at No. 15 A and 15 B MacDonald Street, Ikoyi was not in record of the registry.
He admitted that the EFCC based its assumption that Saraki owns the properties on the claim of a Presidential Committee on sales of the federal government owned properties. He also maintained that he did not go to the federal land registry to clarify issues on the disputed property ownership. He said, “We based our assumption that the defendant owns the property at No. 15, MacDonald Ikoyi on the response of the Presidential Committee on the sales of the federal government properties to the effect that the property was allocated to one company Carlse Investment Property.” The Chairman of the Tribunal, Danladi Umar thereafter adjourned the trial till January 17 for the prosecution to produce his next witnesses.
