The Ohworode of Olomu Kingdom in Delta State, His Royal Majesty, Ovie Richard Ogbon Ogoni-Oghoro 1 is the Chairman of Urhobo Traditional Rulers Council. On the 20th of January 2017, he will be 100 years old. In an exclusive interview with PUNCH, the highly-revered king spoke on his reign, secret of his long life and other issues. On the secrets of his long life, HRM Ogbon said, The first secret I can say is blessing from God. You know every good gift comes from God. Everything a man possesses comes from God.

“There is a portion from the Bible which says no man can receive anything except it is given to him from above. Secondly, it is hereditary in a way but I wonder why out of my father’s 21 children, I was the only one that inherited it. I was the last born of my father. I am the only surviving child out of 21 children. Apart from that, one has to take care of himself. There are things one needs to do.

“One needs to free himself from dirty things like flirting with people’s wives, oppression, injustice, diabolical things, refusing to give, bearing false witnesses. I eat twice a day. I eat moderately. I don’t take alcoholic drink right from my youth, I don’t smoke and I like clean environment. I don’t take too much medicine and I hardly go to the hospital. I sleep like a baby. I don’t bear grudges against people even when they wrong me. I feel very contented. I can say that I have not been admitted in the hospital for more than four times since I was born. Above all, my confidence is in God.”

At what age did he marry and how many children does he have? “I got married 1949 and the Christian marriage was in 1954. God blessed me with children. My first wife divorced me. I had eight children with her that survived. She left ten years before I married another one. My second wife gave me four children, making twelve children. Out of the twelve children, the most senior one who was the first female ambassador in Nigeria was called by God in 2012. All the children are graduates.” Does he still perform his conjugal duties? “No. I don’t. I have lost my libido. It’s not there anymore but I don’t regret it. I can relate and play with my wife but we don’t go to that aspect. And I don’t want to take enhancing drugs to reactivate anything. I have children.”
