Nigeria’s Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has said the Federal Government will not tolerate any attempt by anyone to disrupt the peace of the country. He made the vow earlier today at the meeting with the leaders of thoughts from the northern region over the agitation for Biafra and the recent ultimatum given by northern youths asking the Igbos to vacate the region by October 1. The acting president said: “Every form of hate speech and every stone thrown in the market will hit a target unintended. We will take very serious any attempt to disrupt the peace of this country. We cannot control violence when it begins.” Osinbajo said he would also meet with eastern leaders as well as religious rulers and traditional rulers from both regions.
The meeting was attended by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives’ Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonishakin, Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, Defence Minister, Mansur Dan-Ali and Interior Minister, Abdurahman Dambazzau. The northern leaders in attendance include the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum; the Secretary-General of the JNI; the Chief Executive Officer of Media Trust Ltd, Mallam Mannir Dan-Ali; Dr Usman Bugaje; Senator Aliyu Wammako; Prof. Ango Abdullahi; Ahmed Tijani; Martin Luther Agwai; Abdullahi Lahu; among others.
